Partnering with Ilford Exchange and Nehru Centre for Diwali

A happy congregation of 49,800 people participated at the Exchange Mall. The first time Diwali was attempted on a communal scale and flavour!

Being busy is a part of a dynamic organisation, and at Dhruv we have good reasons to be. In November we said yes to Telugu cultural festival partnering with Nehru Centre and to the Exchange Ilford mall.

After hosting a successful LIAF, what next?
Thanks to all of you for making London International Arts Festival such a big success, can't complain on any of the aspect - given the fact that this was our first major multi-day event. We were supported by many, encouraged by many and the houseful audience who could have let us down decided not to. We were busy with LIAF until August 2012, and suddenly we have this feeling of 'withdrawal', and to compensate the inactivity we are busy planning or helping our partners in many events like:  South India Melam 2012  [Sept 14th and 15th],LIAF 2013, and an arts workshop in October. Keep in touch, and thanks to all who made LIAF a big success it was.

Memorable March
From a Rasika , sanskrit for connoisseurs
'After a long time I heard a clean and crisp Saveri [Mode / Raga]. It was a kacheri [concert] that I will remember for a while'"   Read Full blog by Madini

From Dhruv
8 hours of non-stop cultural activity involving 4-75 years, all in a day! Bursting busy, but well organised, we were told. First the workshop with 30 participants, followed by 7 children's orchestras, concluding with an Indian classical concert. March 24th event was fabulous and showed how much more of these we need, if children's spirits [going by the number of crisp packs that were gone] and the audience turn-out was any indication. Its a pleasure to organise such events, and its been so for over nine years. Ilford has a very unique character where it draws new faces in every new event. Email us with your ideas - if we can organise something your way, we have many - but your ideas do count.

One of attendees at the March 24th event said ' 'Only Dhruv could put together such classical events in East London lasting for over 8 hours, which was truly engaging!'

Dhruv will not be too overwhelmed and we will interpret the above compliments in the context of Redbridge and East London. Its not the first time, I still remember an whopping 450+ audience sat spell bound for a 195 minutes concert in 2011. While sadly the chief guest had to leave early for an 'urgent meeting'. Really and truly, we were contended by some of the direct feedback and emails we received.

I look forward to presenting our May, 2012 event - where we are bringing in Vishaka Hari, an orator who can present in 7 languages. We will keep you updated. Keep the dates free for Dhruv - May 12th and 13th, 2012.

Don't forget the big event, LIAF - 2012.

So until next time, bye.
Team Dhruv,

Happy to note that the two workshops focusing on the compositions of the South Indian Composers, Annamacharya [AD 1408-1503] and Purandara Dasa  [AD 1484–1564] were very well received. We had participants from across a wide area - Swiss, France and of course Redbridge and the surrounding Eastham - apart from Reading.

9 compositions were taught and the learning sessions ended with workshop master - Rathna Srikantiah leading the group rendition of Telugu and Kannada compositions. We will post a few of these on YouTube shortly and share the links.

Thanks to many local teachers and organisations, and specially to NuSound Radio  who supported the Saturday's workshops. www.DhruvArts.org has more pictures.

While most of you head out for holidays and escape cold winter - we will be busy planning 2013 - London International Arts Festival [www.liaf.co.uk]. Check us out in the New-year.

Happy Diwali

from all of us here, we wish you all a great festival time and loads of good arts. After all autumn isn't the most naturally inspiring time - we all need something more.

After London International Arts Festival, we were busy with Dhruv Youth Orchestra, Annual Music examination preparations, the South Indian Mela, Telugu Culture day, and tomorrow we are bringing Diwali at the Exchange Mall, Ilford. It's going to be a day of multi-events with free live events offering - Carnatic, Hindustani, Dance, Bhajan, Fusion Music, Workshop, Massages, Rangoli and many more. Dhruv is delivering this in partnership with the Exchange Ilford. Look below for detailed program. Street food, and free massages are just the smallest of the added value to spend your Saturday at Exchange, tomorrow.

At Womex, Greece. October, 2012
Womex was fun, productive networking and full of inspiring world music. This year we were a bit weary of representing ourselves at Greece's picturesque and sunny Thessaloniki due to bad press and media Europe wide. While some of the seasoned promoters and world-class festivals had big stands, we were a part of the British Stand and we had no regrets - we gained more than we bargained for, friendly stands, helpful staff from British Underground, great messaging systems, and lot of compliments like drinks and nibbles. Friends from across the world from Madagascar to China. We are in the process of contacting each one of our valued partners and friends, some new, some old and it may take upto a month when we complete the process.
