The London International Arts Festival (LIAF) is an exclusive annual event celebrating the diverse cultures of East London and beyond. It is organised with the aim of promoting the traditional arts of South Asian music, dance, storytelling and visuals linked to Diverse arts from across the world. Dhruv has culturally and from a community perspective evolved since its founding in 2004, visualising the need to provide a platform for contemporary and complimentary cultures and art forms, from which LIAF was born.

This year’s fest, which will be held on Nov 2nd, 3rd, 8th & 10th will continue to provide exciting and affordable entertainment for all ages and musical tastes, plus a variety of food, shopping and children’s activities. The festival happens in two venues, the Kenneth More Theatre, near to the Town Centre, Ilford and in Rich Mix, a popular music venue in East London.

What a festival it was in 2012, August - Thank you all.

The festival launch was on July 12, 2012 at the Nehru Centre, in Mayfair in London. The festival was inaugurated by Redbridge Mayor Mr. Muhammed Javed and Indian singing legend Dr. Balamuralikrishna  on 10th  August 2012. Its curator is composer and violin virtuoso Jyotsna Srikanth, a co-founder of Dhruv Arts. She programmed an effective and  fantastic weekend of live performances that featured Classical, Folk, Jazz and Contemporary music and dance from around the world, including India, Mexico, Serbia, Turkey & the USA.

During the launch Jyotsna explained the inspiration behind LIAF, “I have performed numerous Indian classical and contemporary concerts, and collaborated with many international artists to create music that cuts across many musical genres and geographies. Yet here in East London where I live – one of the most multi-cultural places on Earth – we did not have a quality arts festival reflecting this diversity.

Wow! what a success August's London International Arts Festival [LIAF] was! A product of 18 months of creative manoeuvre by festival curator Jyotsna Srikanth helped LIAF establish as the youngest and the most eclectic artsfestival of London. Drawing audiences from Dundee to East of Essex and filling a 674 capacity venue was a big achievement. Find festival picture-collages and highlights.

Our exciting LIAF 2012 programme featured fantastic, award-winning artists and musical legends. I am also keen to help develop emerging talent. With this in mind, a key part of the festival's objective is to offer workshops so young artists can gain insight and hands-on experience from maestros of different musical genres. I am too happy that the workshops were so well attended”

LIAF 2012 took place at Redbridge Town Hall, a Grade 2 listed building located in the town centre among the main shopping precinct. This impressive Victorian landmark contains two spacious rooms, the Main Hall and Lambourne Room, both of which was fully used for LIAF.

With a capacity of 675, the Main Hall staged LIAF’s Matinee (afternoon) and Evening concerts. These were all ticketed events. Each session featured at least two top class performances – do visit the Line Up section of our website to see the full LIAF 2012 programme and to read about the wonderful LIAF artists.

Thanks for coming and being a part of East-London arts history, the London International Arts Festival.

I feel very passionate about LIAF. What started as a desire to showcase the very best of South Indian Carnatic music has expanded into far richer tapestry of music and arts originating from different continents.
